Scotland.

Proposed Crimean Banquet.—A meeting was held on Friday week within the Council Chambers, to consider what steps could be adopted for giving a welcome to the sth Dragoon Guards and the 72nd Highlanders, who are to be garrisoned in Edinburgh on their, return. At the request of the Lord Provost, Mr Sinclair looked over the city records of 1815-16 to see if any demonstration had taken place on the return of the soldiers from the French war, but no entry was found on the subject. Sir W.,Johnson expressed his hope that the reception, whether of the nature of a banquet or otherwise, should not be limited to the officers, but should include every soldier of them who had been engaged in the war. A large and influential committee were named, and requested to report to a future meeting.
