Ida Valley.

(Fbom Our Own Correspondent.) There has been several showers of rain these last few days which will do a lot of good, causing a bustle to get the turnips in. There is a large area being put under turnips this season. Feed is more plentiful than it has been for some years past, Shearing is pretty general. The wool is in excellent condition, and the sheep are shearing well, all stock being in good condition. There is a regular storm in a tea pot re the letting of the maintenance contract for the roads in this district. It seems as if all the labouring population in the Valley was in for them. The council accepted Mr M'Donald's tender of £BO, and as a great many were much lower, they are in a state of indignation because they did not get them. I expect no less than to see them sack the whole council. For my part, I consider their tenders far top. low, as no man can look after the I mileage of roads and do anything fair to them jujd himself for anything like the money. - It-would take a week to walk over them all without doing any work. Of course the engineer knows best. We have had stirring times this last week or two, but now things are back to their normal state again until the Christmas holidays, which are fast drawing near.
