Sporting Notes.
i (By "Old Sport.") 3, ; W. Pitches has Flossie in steady work, and last year's winner of the trot at Blacks is looking well and, 1 hear, is moving Very freely. Tim Norton has Spider in training, and I would like to see the chestnut secure a race or two for his plucky owner, Osti-.y started in the November Handicap at Tahuua Park on Saturday, but was unplaced. Whisper, who ran second from scratch, was conceding him 14sec. Black Jack started in two races at the same meeting, but was unplaced in both. He was ridden by Mat Dawson. Whisper secured two seconds. She paid £3 for second place in the Stewards' Handicap. Judging by his successes at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, Mr G. G. Stead's present team is one of the strongest that has ever been sheltered by any stable in the history of racing in this colony. With the single exception of Achilles, who is apparently not at his best at present, he owns all the cracks in training this season. T regret to have to report a rather unfortunate accident which happened to Mr Jack Cotter, our well-known Arrowtown sport and rider. It ap* pears that he was riding a horse-in the jumping competition at the Cromwell show, when the animal fell and threw its rider, rendering him unconscious. I am pleased to state that the accident was not as serious as was at first 'm«. agined. Jack received a severe bhaking, and from latest reports was progressing satisfactorily, ALEXANDRA JOCKEY CLUB.
