Mayoral Election.
At the meeting or the Alexandra Borough Council on Mondag evening last, a deputation of leading citizens waited on Or Spencer, and presented a requisition, signed by about 140 burgesses, asking that gentleman to allow himself to be nominated for the office of mayor for the ensuing term. Mr L. B, Grimstone, who presented the requisition on behalf of the citizens, said that Or Spencer’s long association with the Council and his intimate knowledge of municipal affairs well fitted him for the .position, to which he (the speaker) was sure Or Spencer would do justice. Should Or Spencer decide to accept the position he could be assured of the unanimous and hearty cooperation of the citizens in any direction that would tend to further the interests of the town. Or Spencer thanked the requisitionists. for the confidence reposed in him, and said he would agree to the request contained in the petition. The declaration of the poll took place at noon yesterday, when the Returning Officer (Mr F. Young) declared Mr Spencer duly elected, unopposed, as Mayor for the ensuing term.
