Borough Council.
The ordinary meeting of the Alex andra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, when there were present—Ore Schaumann (in the chair). Laidlaw, Buchanan, Appleton, Ryan, M'Math, Anderson, and Spencer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: —
—From Mrs Drummey, asking to be allowed to take water from the town race.
On the motion of Cr M'Math, seconded by Cr Laidlaw, it was resolved that Mrs Drummey's request be granted on the usual conditions* —Prom the Molyneux Hydraulic Company, in reference to the supply of water.
Or Jl'Math moved and Or Anderson seconded —That the raceman be instructed to put the race in repair to carry water to the Hydraulic 00/s guage box. —From Mr G. Hannay, asking permission to put bricks and sand on Athlone-street.
Permission was granted as requested.
—From Mr Wilmot, District Surveyor, stating that he found that about a quarter of an acre of the area fenced in at the cemetery was outside the reserve and on the town b»lt. On the motion of Or M'Math, seconded by Cr • Buchanan, it was resolved that the necessary steps be taken to have the area referred to included in the reserve.
—From the Paymaster-General, advising that the sum of £l, goldfields revenue, had been remitted to the credit of the Borough.—Received —From the Golden Bend Sluicing Company, asking upon what terms the Council would rent them water. It was resolved that consideration of the application be held over in the meantime.
—From the Central Otago Trotting Club, requesting that. Friday, April 22nd, be declared a public holiday. It was resolved that the Mayor be asked to declare a public holiday on the day referred to. Resolved —That the dayman be requested to repair the race leading past the school. —A letter was read from Cr Appleton tendering his resignation as a councillor, as he intended leaving the district shortly for the North Island. Several councillors expressed regret at Or Appleton's departure. On being first elected to the position Cr Appleton had been returned at the head ot the poll, and during his term as councillor he had proved himself one of the mott useful members at the council table.
On the motion of Or Spencer, seconded by Or M'Matb, Or Appleton's resignation was accepted with regret. The following accounts were passed for payment;- Daily Times, 13s; Jas RiTers, 12s (Library); Jas Rivers, £1 15s lOd ; Wages, £36 4s; G B Aitkea, £1 5a ; Theyers and Sons, 2s; F Williams, £% 3s 6d|; Qtago Central Foundry, £8 4s; H Tohill. £i 18s; Alexandra Coal Company, £2 7s 6d ; Insurance Town Hall, £1 10s; C W Wilde, £1 13s 9d ; F Young, £10; total, £6B 6s 7d. The Council then rose.
