SPORTING.

CENTRAL OTAGO TROTTING CLUB. A meeting of those interested in the formation of. a trotting club in the district was held in the Criterion dub Hotel on the evening of the 10th inst. There were about 20 gentlemen present, representative of all parts of the district, and Mr L B Grimstone was voted to the chair. Mr T. P. Beck explained that some 80 gentlemen had already signified their intention of becoming members, and he thought that if a race-meeting were held they could reckon on a revenue of at least £l5O. Mr Buchanan said it was pleasing to learn that the proposed club had received such liberal support, and there was no room left for doubt that a trotting meeting could be held successfully. He moved—That a club, to be called the Central Otago Trotting Club be formed. The motion was seconded by Mr S. Oameron, and carried. It was resolved that the, first racemeeting be held on the Alexandra racecourse. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr T. P. Btck; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Jolly and E. F. Gtrkens; judge, Mr L. B. Grimstone ; hon. treasurer, Mr W. S. JLaidlaw; secretary. Mr L. Ryan; stewards, Messrs R. May (Cromwell), J. M'Arther (jun), laylor (Clyde), G. Moran (Matakanui), G. Martin (Lauder), »S. Cameron, D. Bringans, E. Marslin, F. Gay, W. Nicholson (Alexandra), J. Butler (Bald Hill Flat), and G. Reid (Qoeenstown) ; clerk of course, Mr W. Richards; clerk of scales, Mr O. J. M'lntosh; timekeeper, Mr W. S. Laidlaw. It was resolved that the president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer act m ofliicio as stewards, and that five form a quorum. On the motion of Mr Grimstone, seconded by Mr Laidlaw, it was resolved that the president, secretary, treasurer, and the six local stewards be appointed a committee to draw up a programme, to be submitted to a general meeting of the club to be held on Saturday, 27th inst., stakes not to exceed £140; and that they also offer suggestions re the appointment of handicapper and starter.

It was decided to call for tenders for the printing and advertising from the AfiEXAHDBA. Herald, " Dunstan Times," and " Cromwell Argus." It was resolved that April 15th be suggested to the committee as the date on which the meeting should be held. The meeting then adjourned to the 27th inst.
