ALEXANDRA V. LOWBURN. On Saturday the local team journeyed to Lowburn to try conclusions with th*t club, with the result that the Lowburn boys were defeated on the first innings by 111 runs. Al though the Alexandra team felt confident of a win, they hardly expected to do so by such a wide margin, as the Lowburn team has proved itself a very hard one to beat on its own ground. For the losers the brunt of the work was borne by Swann with both bat and ball, though the whole team worked well, even when defeat was certain. For the winners, Smith further established his reputation as the champion batsman of the team by compiling a very nice 78, not out. This fine innings was marred only by one chance (given to square leg at 63) which was not accepted, thereby allowing the batsman to carry his bat right through. Tne bowling was done by Burnside and S Churchill, both of these securing splendid averages; Burnnde's reading 6 for 17, and S Churchill's 4 for 18. The detailed scores are as follows : Lowborn. The young ladies were in evidence as usual in the dispensing of afternoon tea to the visitors, and the club started for home at 7 p.m. feeling well satisfied with their trip to Lowburn.
