Alexandra Brass Band.
The annual meeting of the Alexandra Brass Band was held in the ▲ RV orderly room on Friday evening last, 22nd inst. There was a good attendance of members and Mr W Bringaoa (bandmaster) occupied the than*. - The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed, a number of new members were elected; and the election of office-bearers for the ensuing year was then held, and resulted as follows .-—Bandmaster, Mr W Bringans; band-sergeant and secretary, Mr A A Briasco; corporal, Mr J Gallie; treasurer, Mr W Poppel well; committee, Messrs Bringans, Briasco, Poppelwell, Farquharaon, Campbell, Churhtain, and Sinclair. * A hearty vote of thanks was ao< corded to "the office-bearers for their ear vices during the past year. It was resolved that collection boxes be placed at tne gates of the Recreation Reserve, so that lovers of music could have an opportunity of contributing towards the music fund on the occasions when the band gives a programme on Sundays; also that the hand offer its services to the trustees of the Dunstan Hospital by. playing a programme at Clyde and Alexandra, a collection to be taken up in aid of the Hospital Fund.
Donations were received from Messrs Kelrnan and Bellamy. The band's liabilities amount to nearly £3O, against which there is £lB 9s cash in hand, and, considering the fact that for years past, all funds raised for the band were devoted to the Instrument and uniform funds, and that the band lately transferred £lO from its own account to the uniform fund, : the opinion was expressed that the band is in a very satisfactory position, _ as about £3OO has been paid away durjgbig the past two years for instruments, uniforms, stands, ice The band will probably give a con- . cert at an early date which should put it entirely oat of debt, and leave them with a surplus to procure music, <fcc, for #wyear.
The usual vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting, when all the members were invited by Bandmaster Bringans to the Caledonian Hotel where there was a sumptuous spread awaiting them. A number of toasts were honored, including " The King," "Bandmaster Bringans," "The Alexandra Orchestral Society," " The Ladies," and " The Volunteers," conduding with the " Host and Hostess." A number of songs and recitations were given by the members, and altogether a couple of hours were enjoy ably epent
