Central Otago A & P Association.
A general meeting of the above association was held at Ophir on Thursday afternoon last, There were about 20 members present, and the president (Mr J M*Arthur) occupied the chair.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The business of the meeting was to arrange matters in connection with the forthcoming show. On the motion ot Mr Jopp, seconded by Mr Weir, the following gentlemen were appointed a ground committee :- Messrs W B Hawson, J M'Knight, J Pitches, D Arnold, and B Flannery. The matter of disposing of the privileges for the sale of fruit at the show was left in the hands of the secretary. Messrs W Laidlaw, H Weir, and M'Arthur each offered the use of a tarpaulin for roofing the marquee to contain the dairy exhibits, and Mr J Piches offered to store the same till required for use,
It was resolved to invite tenders for clearing the ground, same to be dealt with by the ground committee.
It was decided to bold a dance in the evening, and Messrs Gerkens, D Donnelly, and W M'Donald were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. On the motion of Mr Laidlaw, seconded by Mr Gerkens, it was resolved to procure 12 new hurdles for sheep pens.
Mr John Wilson offered to supply three sheep for the guessing competition, provided the Society made arrangements for getting them to the show ground. It was resolved—That the Mayor of Alexandra and the County Chairman be asked to declare show day a holiday. It was also decided to ask Mr Lewis (Railway Works) to grant the men a holiday. The secretary stated that since the programme had been published, the following special prizes bad been received :—Mr A D Bell (Shag Valley), £\ Is ; Mr W Wilson (Hawkdun), £1 Is; Mr A J Joyce (Alexandra), 10s 6d ; Messrs Rattray and Sons (Dunedin), value 10s 6d. A letter -was read from Mr C J Reakes stating that if possible arrangements would be made for the attendance of a Government veterinary surgeon at the show. The secretary was instructed to write thanking the Government for the offer,
A good deal of discussion took place regarding a special prize of £2 2s given by mistake at last show, to Mr L P Cabot, and which Mr Cabot declined to refund. The committee previously appointed to interview Mr Cabot reported that they could get no satisfaction, and finally it was resolved, on the motion of Laidlaw, seconded by Mr Jopp—That, after hearing Mr Cabot's reply to the committee, this meeting is of opinion that ho is not entitled to the special prize referred to, and that he be asked to refund it. Other business of a routine character was dealt with, and the meeting close) witlwa vote of thanks to the chairman.
