UNITY GOLD DREDGING COMPANY.
The annual meeting of the Unity Gold Dredging Company, held at Dunedin on Friday last, was presided over by Mr F Nees. In moving the adop* tion of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman mentioned that 4s had been paid in dividends during the year. He regretted that the past year had not been so successful as the previous one, but the river had not been so favorable for dredging. From the Ist December to the 18th February the dredge had been working summer ground. During the year they had acquired some fresh ground below Muttontown, and on getting this they had surrendered part of the claim worked out, and now stood at a lower rental with a smaller claim, The dredge had been under the charge of Mr Barry, who had given every satisfaction. They had a very good crew throughout. The reserve fund had been partly eaten up by their operations at the beginning of the season, and now stood at a lower figure
The motion was carried. It was resolved—That the number of directors be four, and that their remuneration be 48 guineas per annum. Mr D Bringans was elected local director.
Replying to a question the chairman eaid there were 50 acres of river and bank claim yet that had not been touched by the dredge.
UNDAUNTED GOLD MINING COMPANY, LTD. The following is the half-yearly report of the above Company, to be submitted to shareholders:— "In presenting balance-sheet for the half year ending 30th September, 1903, your directors have to express their regret that the position disclosed is not as favourable as they would like it to be. The autumn was unusually dry and the water supply only sufficient for stripping the poorly auriferous overburden work that, however it may facilitate subsequent operations, gives but little immediate return. The dry lutumn was followed by an equally unusual winter, both in severity and duration. For six weeks no water could be carried in the Thompson's Creek head-races; and for ten weeks none could be earned in the Chatto Creek head-race ; the cost of cleaning out the races in Spring was four times the average. Sluicing on the bottom was begun on 30th September, and the paddock was only sufficiently opened to admit of boxes being set on 14th October. The ground now being operated upon looks very well, and your directors hope during the current half year to do much towards making up for deficiency of last. There is a great deal more than the usual amount of snow on the ranges and a plentiful supply of water far into the summer is assured. The new claim has not yet been prospected ; uor is there any occasion to be in a hurry about doing so, as the workings of the Company, whose operations disclosed the likelihood of gold in the unoccupied Crown Lands adjoining their claim, are gradually coming nearer and proving the ground for us. Your directors in the meantime are taking steps to surrender the worked portion of their old claim, and to include the new claim with the old, under one title."
