MINING NEWS.

The rainfall on Tuesday night caused the river to rise rapidly, and during yesterday the water crept up to the 15ft mark at the Alexandra bridge. Late last evening the river appeared to be stationary at this level. The Moa dredge is working steadily. Mr J. Sanders, late dredgemaster of the Golden River dredge, has been appointed to a similar position on the Golden Gravel Co.'s dredge:

The directors of the Manuherikia Company have declared a dividend of 2s per share, payable on November 1. During the last four months shareholders in this company have received Ii dividends £13,000, or 22s per share. Mr W. Sanders, at present on the Shellback dredge (West Coast), has been appointed dredgemaster of the loch Lomond Co.'s dredge. Mr M. M'Craw is engineer. Messrs J, M'Ginnis and H. Murray, of Cromwell, have accepted engagements from the Transpacific Company of Queensland, which holds a large dredging concession on the Rio d'Or, » tributary of the River Parana, in Brazil. The scene of the proposed operations is only about fifteen degrees fouth of the equator, and is over 3000 miles inland. Messrs M'Ginnis ftnd Murray left last week for South America.

The Matau dredge had no wash-up last week as part of the week was lost in shifting down to the bottom of her claim, near Muttontown. On Thursday the dredge got bottom, but the ground was deep. The present rise in the river will doubtless cause a tessation of dredging operations. The Alexandra Lead dredge has been shifted to the opposite side of the liver, and is now taking up a cut along the western side of the river, near the lower boundary of the Company's claim.

The Molyneux Hydraulic dredge is being dropped down to the lower end of the company's claim, and dredging ghould be in full swing within a day or two. i;The Golden Beach dredge is wording steadily, and i? gradually opening out a paddock. It will take some Kttle time, however, before a face is properly opened out.
