Bannockburn.

(From bur own Correspondent.) Frost, fog, and snow have all been here, but a thaw has how set in, and the weather is just like spring. FOOTBALL. The first match of the season for the Bannockburn Club eventuated last Saturday on the local ground, when a team from the Clyde Club met and played a drawn game. The ground was in a frightful state, being over the boot tops in mud. The Clyde boys were considerably heavier than the local team, and it was thought that their weight would be very advantageous to them on account of the heavy state of the field. The local forwards, However, managed to secure the ball in the scrum nearly every time, but m it was very greasy, it was difficult to handle, though the local backs did very well, In the first spell W Crombie was within an ace of scoring on two or three occasions, but he slipped and fell every time. In the second spell, 6 M'Oabe secured the ball from a line out and get over the line, but was pushed into touch-in-goal before he could force the ball. The play on both sides was not very brilliant, but all tried to do their best, so it would be invidious on my part to particularise anyone. Matches between these two clubs have always been noted for the friendly spirit in which they have been played, and Saturday's match was no exception to the rule. Mr G Lawrence gave every satisfaction as referee, and Messrs Holden (Clyde) and Hancock (Bannockburn) acted as line umpires. In the evening the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert, and a couple of very pleasant hours were spent.
