The wintry weather experienced during the'past few days has caused the river to fall a good deal. The height at the Alexandra bridge last evening, was 4£ft above the " normal" mark. , .' The Government has purchased the powerful pumping plant at erected there a few years ago by the Thames-Hauraki. Company, with a view of allowing it to be worked,'on reasonable conditions, by any company which may be formed to test the deep levels at the Thames. The Moa No 2 dredge is at present stopped for repairs. The Cromwell Dredging Co.. has declared a dividend (the 15th) of 2s 6d* per share. ' The Olrig dredge is taking a narrow cut in order to more quickly reach the lead of good wash which was struck when the dredge was working upwards. It is expected that in about three or ; four weeks this point will be reached, and an improvement in the returns may 4hen be expected. - jj The Manuherikia dredge renamed work on Monday near thejjpttelr> boundary of the company's claife* The? drift at this point is not so bad &$ was (anticipated. v ; The Sailor's Bend, First Chance, and* Davis Bend No. 1 dredges commenced work oh Monday.
