Sports at Ophir.
The annual sports under the auspices of St Patrick's Athletic G ub were held at Ophir on Tuesday, 17th inst., (St Patrick's Day). Unfortunately, the weather turned out unfavourable, ->nd consequently the attendance o: the public was not so large as has invariably been the case in "past years. Notwithstanding this drawback, *he competition in the various events was good, and some excellent contests. were witnessed The office-bearers carried out.their Various duties to the entire satisfaction of all concerned.
The medal presented by Mr T Read, for most points in the 100 yds, 200 yds and 300 yds handicap, was won by J Healy, of Ophir. An unfortuate accident happened to J Slater, (one of the competitors in the High Jump), •vho fell on the slippery grass, with the result that one of his wrists was fractured.
The Ophir Brass Band were in attendance and considerably enlivened the proceedings. Following are detailed results:— Maiden, 100yds—First £1 10s, second 10s R Crawford .. t 1 B Bra-ly ... 2 W- King and J Healey also ran. •Quoits, 18yds—First £2, 2nd 10s G Donnelly .., 1 T Donnelly ... 2 Eight competed.

High Jump—First £l, 2nd 10s D Gibson 2in .. 1 J Slater scr .. 2 Crawford 2in and Kitto scr also competed. St Patrick's Handicap, 200 yds— First £3, 2nd £1 10s, 3rd 10s Keddell scr 1 [ Healey 20yds .. 2 Brady Byds .. 3 M'Quail 3yds, Milne syds, Crawford \ 6ds, King 6yds, and Colling 10yds also ran. Sack Race, 100yds—First £l, 2nd 10s D Gibson scr ... 1 G Donnelly Byds ... 2 Six competed. 300yds—First £2 10s 2nd £l, 3rd 10s J Healy 25yds ~ 1 Milne 10yds .. 2 Brady 12yds .. 3 Also started: M'Connochie scr, Keddell 2yds, King 10yds, Kitto 13yds, and 15yds. Three-legged Race, 100yds—First £l, 2nd 10s. King and Milne .. 1 Keddell and Kitto 2 Breaking the Egg (Blindfold), 20yds, First £l, 2nd 10s D.Gibson ■ .. 1 Half-mile Handicap—First £l,2nd 10s H Kitto 45yds .. 1 M'Quail 20yds .. 2 M'Connochie scr, Crawford 20yds and Keddell 45yds also started.
