Borough Council.
Tbe ordinary fortnightly meeting of tbe Alexandra Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, on Monday March 23rd, 1903. Present: Cr Spencer, Deputy Mayor (in chair) Crs. Fraser, Schaumann, Ryan M'Math, Richards, Anderson and Appleton. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting of the council were read and confirmed.
Inward correspondence as under was read :
From the Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, rt late letters and hours of closing the mail, (fee. From Mr T J Francis resigning his position as the Borough's representative on the Naseby Hospital Board. From Mr R Hay the engineer for the waterworks rt railage of pipes to Ida Valley and rt cementing reservoir. From the Mining Registrar, Clyde, re water rights from Chatto Creek and tributaries.
From Mr Edgar Sainsbury, enquiring if the council would be prepared to lease part of the Borough Endowment and one head of water.
From Messrs Thompson and Backholm residents on the Flat re nuisance caused by wandering cattle.; • ; | From the Secretary, Treasury, Wellington, ra interest on loan and enclosing account for same. - Moved by Cr Schaumann and seconded by Cr Anderson—That the inward correspondence as read be received and the outward approved.— Carried.
Moved by Cr Ryan, seconded by Or M'Math—That a letter be sent to the Postal Department re having a letter-box placed at the coach office, and that at the same time Messrs Craig and Co. be asked to give their consent to the plan if carried out.— Carried.
Moved by Cr Ryan, and seconded by Cr Schauman—That Mr Francis's resignation as the Council's representative on the Naseby Hospital Trust be accepted. As an amendment, Cr Richards moved—That Mr Francis be written to asking him to re-consider his decision.
On being put to the vote, the amendment was declared lost and the motion carried.
Moved by Cr Appleton—That the name of Mr James Kirby be suggested to the Naseby Hospital Trust as a suitable person to take Mr Francis's place for the balance of the term. — Seconded by Cr Schaumann and carried, _':' Resolved—That the town clerk write to Mr Sainsbury, asking him to renew his offer to the Council when the present lessee's term for the endowment has expired. Resolved —That the town clerk write to Messrs Thomson and Backholm and inform them that the pound- ! keeper has instructions to impound all cattle found wandering on the streets. Moved by Cr M'Math and seconded by Or Richards —That the statement of estimated expenditure and revenue for 1903-1904, as submitted by the clerk, be approved, and advertised in accordance with the Act.—Carried. Moved by Cr M'Math, and seconded by Cr Ryan—That specifications be prepared for tarring portion of Tarbertstreet footpaths and submitted to the next meeting of the Council for approval.—Carried. Moved by Cr Ryan, and seconded by Cr M'Math—That notice of the Council's intention to open the road to the Molyneux coal-pit be served on the owners of adjoining property.— Carried. -qn Resolved'—That tenders be called for painting and fixing the cemetery fence. The following accouts were passed for payment:—W; Theyers and Sons, Is 3d ; " Engineering Journal," £1; " Daily Times" Co., 13s ; W. J. Lyon and Co., 18s;.Jas. Rivers (hire), £1 ; and Hutton, £2 8s 8d; James Travis, \£l3 6s; E. J. Terry; £18; •labour accounts town race, £54 18s. The council then rose.
