Bannockburn.
(JProm our own Correspondent.) During the last few weeks this piaco has been moving along in the same old quiet style. There is very little demand for our chief product—coal—and consequently the, coal pit.hands have to put up with a lot of alack time; but I hear that a few more dredges are going to recommence operations soon, no that will increase the coal trade slightly. The threatened reefing "boom" on the Carrick has been burst, owing to some complications with a local party, and the' company that was going to carry on operations has cleared out. I suppose the ground they intended to work will remain idle for a few riv>re more years, until another obmpsisry comes along, and then it is to be hoped that a certain party, on the Bannockburn will not be so greedy, but will stick to the bone he has got, and not go snapping at its shadow. Shooting Match.
About two*years ago, when the local Rifle Club was formed, there were not wantini some who predicted that -the * club would be dead within six months, but I am glad to be able to say that these croakers' fears have been proved to be groundless, and our club has still got plenty of sturdy legs to stand on, and there is not the slightest fear of it being unable to ex|st much linger. A ladies' bracelet match, was held on Saturday. Splendid shooting weather? prevailed all day, and the riflemen turned out in.good The ladies also turneii ojifein larggjnutnbers|and provided excellent refreshments. Two prizes were given for the two highest scorers, and then the prizes had to ba presented to the ladies who were for-r tunate enough to draw the winninsst~names. After a very exciting struggle' the honors rested with Messrs J, Horn and R. "Ray, who put on 90, and 89 respectively, out of a possible 105. Mrs: A. Ritchie drew the winner, received a handsome gold bracelet, arid Miss Jean Crabbe, diew second prize and received a gold brooch A dance was held in the ball at night, when the presentations were made. A nice crowd attended, and c) joyed ;-thsnt* 'selvpp iir.mPT'pely. *Mufck: wpp puppHecp bf If ftlimf'\F?f.rf ; <<is nP§;ms.M :i
