Presbyterian Church Social.
On Thursday evening last, a very enjoyable soiree was held in the Alexandra Presbterian Church.- The Presbyterians are very strong numerically in the district, as was evidenced by the large gathering, the church be ing crowded, and fully 300 people must have occupied the pews. It must be remembered, however, that amongst the audience were a fair number of representatives of other denominations. The programme provided was an excellent one, and consisted of songs, recitations, organ solos, and orchestral s lections. The Rev Mr Mackie occupied the chair, and the programme menced with the singing of the " Old Hundredth." . Songs were sung by Mrs Henderson, and Messrs Arnott and and Corrigan. The latter, who made bis first appearance before an Alexandra audience, sang "Nazareth," and his interpretation of the song was a great .treat. Recitations were given by Mr and Miss Burnard, of Bald Hill Fiat, and organ solos were contributed by Miss Nieper and Mr Thomas. The orchestra; consisting of Miss Kilgbur, and Messrs Briaeco, Cairns, M'Eachen, Thomson, and Thomas, played two very nice selections. During the evening the clerk session, Mr Closs, gave a report of the qhurch. A break was made in the middle of the programme, and tea and cakes were handed round. The proceedings were brought to a close about 10.30 p.m., one and all considering shat a very enjoyable evening had been spent. Too much praise cannot be accorded the ladies of the church, who worked so hard to make the affair a success.
