Borough Council.

I The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last. Present—His < Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Kelman), " Ore Spencer, Fraser, Andersoß, Ryan, Schauman», and Richards. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read as follows :r—----—From Mr L. B. Grimstone, stating that Mr D. D. Hyde, Government Poultry Expert, had consented to visit the cfisti-'ct in about two month's time, when lie would deliver an address on poultry-keeping. Mr Grimstone asked that the town hall he granted free of charge for the lecture.

—From the Minister of Public Works, stating that the question of enlarging the Court-house would be considered when dealing with the Public Works Eatimates. —From the Hon. Minister of Public Works, in reply to the Council's communication, in reference to a traffic bridge over the Manuherikia; stating that the matter had been referred for the consideration of the Minister of Lands.

—From Mr R. Hay, engineer, in reference to the landing charges on pipes. The inward correspondence was read and the outward approved. Moved by Cr Ryan, seconded by Cr Richards—That Mr Grimstohe's application for the free use of the town hall on the occasion of a lecture by Mr D. D. Hyde, be Carried., Moved by Or Spencer, seconded by Or Schaumann—That the sum of £l6O be sent to Mr Hay, to meet customs duties and other charges on pipes.— Carried. ' Moved by Or Ryan, seconded by Or Spencer—That, in future, 10 per cent, be charged all bodies using the ation ground, where a charge at the gate is made.—Carried. An amendment by Or Schaumann, that 15 per cent, be charged, was not seconded. ; • •„•>

A request was made by the Wesleyan Church for a reduction in the price of the town hall for entertainments held recently. Moved by Or Fraser—That the charge to the Wesleyan Church for the entertainments be 10s. The motion was not seconded. Moved by Cr Spencer, and seconded by Cr Richards—That no reduction be made in the charge for the hall.~ Carried. .';"' The dayman's report was read and received. Moved by Cr Ryan and seconded! by Cr Fraser—That the Inspector of Nuisances be instructed to prevent waggoners camping at the corner of the Recreation Reserve, or on the public streets; and also that the attention of the inspector be directed to the" fact that complaints are being made about the condition of the streets, especially Mulligan street.— carried. Moved by Cr Ryan, and seconded by Cr Anderson That notice be given that Blaskett street be opened— Carried. Resolved —That the Works Committee visit the proposed extension o£ Blaskett street and report to next meeting. ji.; 3)3 £;\ lenders for formation at the upper part of Tarbet street were opened. The tender of Mr H. Tohill-wad accepted. ."

Or Appleton moved, and; Or Ryan seconded—That it be a recommenda. tion to the Otago Central Railway League to draw up a monster petition, to be signed by all who can do so, urging on the Government the desirability o£ procecuting the Otago Central Railway to the Molyneux "Valley.—Carried. The statement of balances was read as follows:—Dr general account, £742 19s 9d ; ur interest account, £233 9s; Or charges account, £B9 9a lOd ; Or cemetery account, £SO lis 6d; Or library accounts, £6 Bs. 7d; Or pound account, £4 14s 6d; Total Dr balance, £358, 6s 4. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Dresden Co. 15s; A Jopp. £2; W J Prictor, £2 Is 6d; $ Braithwaite, 17s 2d; R Hay, (commission waterworks account) £136 lis 2d; Oilkison and Hutton, £2O g Mondy, Sims and Stephens, £3B ls6d j G R Hunter, £6 15s; J Travis, £lO 16; E Terry, £l2 ; Total, £229 17s 4d.
