Borough Council.

The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, when there were present:—Ors Spencer (deputy-mayor, in the chair), Frascr, Richards, Ryan, Anderson, and Schaumann. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read as follows: —From the Chief Inspector of Factories, requesting the Council to have the weekly half-holiday declared during the month of January. —From the Paymaster General advising that the sum of £l, goldfields revenue, had been remitted to the credit of the Council. —From Messrs Mondy, Sim, and Stephens re agreement between Mr Rivers and the Borough. The inward correspondence was read and outward approved. Resolved—That a special meeting of the Council be held on January 12th, for the purpose of fixing a half-holiday for 1903. Moved by Or Richards, seconded by Or Anderson —That Mr Hayj engineer, be written to, asking him to obtain prices from agents in Dunedin for taking delivery of pipes at the wharf, and delivering them at the Ida Valley railway station.—Carried. Resolved That Mr J. Rivers' tender for supplying stores, be. accepted. " " '" /-' ; ' Moved by Cr Richards, and seconded by Cr Schaumann—That the dog-tax for the year 1903 be 10s, and that the town clerk be appointed collector at a remuneration of 2s each.—Carried. Moved by Cr Anderson and seconded by Cr Schaumann—That Mr F. Young be appointed Borough Valuer for 1903 at a remuneration of £4 4s per annum. Moved by Or Schaumann, seconded by Or Richards—That the works committee be empowered to take steps to get the water channel in Shannonstreet fixedi—Carried/ / The statement of balances was read as follows:—Dr general account) £725 7s 2d; cr interest account, £232 48; cr charities account, £lOl 17s lOd; cr cemetery account, £43 138; cr pound account, £3 lis 6d; cr library account,£l 3s 4d; cr contractors deposits account, £39 17s; total debit balance, £303 Os 6d. Waterworks Loan- Account:—Cr, £5226 13s 6d. The following accounts were passed for payment:—James Rivers, £l6s 6d; James Travis, £los 16s: total, £l2 2s6d. The Council then rose.
