WAR GRATUITY PAYMENTS
MANY APPLICATIONS NOT RECEIVED (P.A.) , WELLINGTON, March 1. - Former servicemen and servicewomen who have not yet applied for their war service gratuities are likely to lose the interest and bonus payments made to those who have already lodged applications. An amendment in the War Service Gratuities Emergency Regulations would be made at an early date, said the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) to-day. As it was considered that every reasonable opportunity had been given for applicants to submit their claims, the Government had decided that in the case of applications not received within four years from the date of entitlement (the date Avhen payment was due), interest at 21 per cent, and the special bonus of 5 per cent, could not be added to the gratuity. The Minister said that a considerable number had not applied for their war service gratuities.
