YOUNG FARMERS

PARTY FROM WAIKATO VISIT TO ASHBURTON Thirty members of Young Farmers’ Clubs in the Waikato district will arrive in Ashburton on March 17, as guests of the MidCanterbury clubs. They will stay in the county for 18 days, during which time they will conduct a comprehensive survey of the principles and methods of agricultural development in this district. For the first 10 days of the visit the party will be billeted oh the south side of the Ashburton River, and included in the itinerary for that period are visits to Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral show on March 18 and the Methven show on March 25. Farms in the Longbeach area will be visited on March 20, and the combined Mayfield and Hinds dog trials will be attended by the party, which on the following' day will journey to ths Klondyke and Ashburton areas. On March 27, the occasion of the Mid-Canterbury Young Farmers’ stock judging at Ashburton ,the party will bid au revoir to the south side of the river, and will be billeted in homes on the north side. A separate programme for the concluding eight days has been mapped out by the MidCanterbury divisional secretary (Mr R. Comer) and members of the council, and begins with a survey of the irrigation scheme and a visit to one of the power houses. In lighter vein, the visitors will attend the Y.F.C. annual ball on April 29. The two final engagements will be a trip to the Fairfield freezing works on March 30. and an instructional visit to Lincoln Agricultural College on April 3. 'Members of local clubs travelled to the Waikato district last year, and are glad to have the opportunity to reciprocate for the kindness they received while there. Such visits as these are carried out all over New Zealand by branches of the organisation and prove to be most, popular.
