Twenty-nine horses were balloted out of the Wairewa Handicap Trot, leaving 30 in the field, when acceptances were taken for the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s summer meeting yesterday. Johnny Globe, Dual Flight, Dealer’s Choice, Killarney Lady, Red Sable, Esquire, Vivanti, Spring Princess, Wren, and Radiant Nancy all qualified to race in the Timaru Nursery Stakes at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting on March 11 when they were placed in their heats of the trials at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association’s meeting at New Brighton today. Together with the five horses which will qualify at the Timaru Trotting Club’s matinee meeting to-day, and Flying Pilot, which qualified when he finished second to Red Slipper in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting

on Saturday, the horses named will comprise the field for the Timaru Nursery Stakes, which is the first classic for two-year-olds to be held in the South Island. Red Sable, Killarney Lass, War Tax, and Dealer’s Choice were the slowest to begin in the first division. Johnny Globe, which has shown much ability at matinee meetings this season, began well, and at the end of two furlongs be was followed . 'by Alouette, Dealer's Choice, Spring Water, War Tax, Killarney Lass and Red Sable, which was about 10 lengths behind the field at this stage. Johnny Globe carried the field along at a fast clip, and he was not troubled to win by two lengths from Dual Flight, with another tvvo lengths to Dealer’s Choice. Then came Killarney Lady and Red Sable. Nona Grattan, Highland Light and Spring Princess all broke at the start of the second division. Wren was the first to show out from Radiant Nancy. When the field settled down, these two were followed by Yivanti, Blue Pietro, and Esquire. Esquire, a winner for R. H. Butterick at a matinee meeting at New Brighton earlier in the season, finished solidly once the straight was reached to beat Vivanti by half a length with Spring Princess another half a length away. Wren and Radiant Nancy finished close up in the minor’ places.
