CHIANG RETURNS
Head Of Nationalist China (Rec. 9.20) TAIPEH, Formosa, Feb. 28. Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek will resume the Presidency of Nationalist China to-morrow morning. A simple ceremony will be held,' at which Chiang will make a statement giving reasons for resumption’of the post which he relinquished last year in favour of Vice-President Li Tsung-jen. According to an official spokesman, Chiang’s main reason will be:—(1) Li Tsung-jen, owing to long sick leave in the United States, is unable to be present in Formosa to lead the Nationalists when-invasion is imminent “following the conclusion, of the SinoRussian Treaty.” (2) That it is the people’s wish that he resume the Presidency. Western political observers believe that Chiang’s return will greatly strengthen morale among the Nationalists.
