LOSS ON POST OFFICE

Information Given By Mr Broadfoot (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 27. For the first time for many years there would be a loss on the operations of the Post and Telegraph Department, said the Postmaster-General (Mr W. J. Broadfoot) at a complimentary luncheon tendered him at Waitara today. The matter was under careful consideration and he would be preparing a report on the subject. Mr Broadfoot said the loss was attributed entirely to rising costs. Much of the equipment was costing two or three times as much as before the war. “It is certainly no reflection on the staff of the department,” he said. “I am convinced that the department has probably the most efficient staff .of any Government department.”
