COUNTY CENTRES

< LAURISTON FUNCTION

RESIDENTS FARE WELLED The attendance at the Sunday evening service of the Lauriston Presbyterian Church was large. The Rev. J. N. Reid (Rakaia) ”was the preacher and Mrs J. G. Marshall was the organist. _ ' At the conclusion of the service a social hour was held when opportunity was taken to hid farewell to Mr Guy Letham and Miss Lena Letham, Mr and Mrs J. A. Mackie and family and Mrs Voice. Mr Reid presided, and expressed the regret of the whole congregation that two such fine families were leaving the church and the district. He handed gifts to Mr Mackie, Miss Lois Mackie and Miss Ruth Mackie, and thanked them for their faithful services to the Sunday School and church. Mrs Reid made presentations to Mrs Mackie, Mrs Voice, and Miss Lena Letham, and particularly praised them for their fine work for the P.W.M.U. as well as for the church generally. Mr C. A. Fyfe presented Mr Guy Letham with a gift from the congregation and thanked him for very long, generous and sincere service to the church. Mr Letham had assisted in preparing the site for the present church, and had served that church faithfully up to the present day. Messrs J. G. Marshall, R. E. Cairns and R. F. Letham also spoke in terms of high praise of the departing friends, who later made feeling replies.
