AIRCRAFT PILOT INJURED
CRASH WHILE SPREADING FERTILISER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. A Tiger Moth aeroplane crashed while topdressing a section of the D. and E. Cameron estate at Wairamarama, near Onevvhero, Raglan county, early this morning. The pilot, Ronald Garnett Toulson, of Horotiu, was taken to the Micldlemore Hospital with injuries to both hands, lacerations to the chin, and a back injury. The aircraft is owned by the Auckland Aviation Service, a group of former servicemen. Mr Toulson -was topdressing a hilly strip of country this morping. Flying at about 150 ft the aeroplane stalled when it was about to make a steep turn at the head of a gully. Mr Toulson made an effort to recover, but the aeroplane lost flying speed, and' crashed.
It is thought that the aeroplane is not extensively damaged. This is the first mishap of the service, which has been in operation about six months. It has spread about 1000 tons of fertiliser in about 300 flying hours.
