THREE YOUTHS MISSING
FISHING TRIP ON LAKE (P..<fe.) MASTERTON, Feb. 27. Three youths * from Carterton are missing in the Lake Wairarapa area and this morning a boat they had been using was found washed up on a mud bank. The boys were last seen on February 20 when they left for a fishing trip on the lake. They expected to be back on Saturday. The are: Leo Mellish, aged/19, of Carterton. lan Upritchard, aged 20, of Carterton. Irwin Cornwall, aged 16, of Matarawa. They were last seen by Mr Val Gooding, a farmer from whose property they went on to the lake. Anxious about his son because he had heard nothing from him, Mr Mellish, sen., crossed the lake to the island in the narrows, but found no sign of the youths. The camp looked as if it had not been used for several days.
Mr Mellish searched fpr them without success and the police were notified that the boys were missing. Air Force aeroplanes joined in the search this morning.
