INTERNAL AFFAIRS WILL NOT STAND INTERFERENCE (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright) (Roc. 10.0). MELBOURNE, This Day. The Inter-state Executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions has decided to oppose the Federal Government legislation banning the Communist Party. The President of the Council, Mr A. E. Monk, told the meeting that the Labour majority in the Senate would reject any legislation interfering with the internal affairs of trade unions. Delegates decided to oppose vigorously any attempt to amend the Conciliation and Arbitration Act to allow appeals to the Arbitration Court against decisions by Conciliation Commissioners, and to oppose the introduction of compulsory secret ballots of union members for the election of officials and befoye strikes. The decisions were along lines suggested at a meeting of the Federal Labour Advisory Committee, which consists of representatives of the Federal Labour Party, Parliamentary Labour and the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

The aggregate votes cast in the General Election -were:—Labour 13,248,957; Conservative, 11,478,477; Liberal, 2,634,482; Communist, 91,746; Labour Independents, 79,595; Independent Labour Party, 4112; National Liberal, 74,108; Conservative Liberal, 897,818; Independents, 70,683; Scottish Nationalists, 9708; Welsh Nationalists, 17,580; Irish Anti-Partition,; 69,458 Sinn Fein, 3362.
