AUSTRALIAN VIEW

RETURN OF LABOUR IN BRITAIN (Rec. 12.30) CANBERRA, This Day, The Deputy-Leader of the Federal Opposition, Dr. H r G. Evatt, said that the Labour movement in Australia and New Zealand was encouraged by the 1 victory of Mr Attlee in Britain, small though the majority would be. He added that the return to power of the Attlee Government was vitally important to Australia and New Zealand because of Britain’s pivotal power in the British Commonwealth of Nations. The Attlee Government had taken-,the lead in drawing the British Commonwealth more closely together by creating the brotherhood of British nations which now included India,, Pakistan and Ceylon. The Labour Movement was not merely national but a world movement —a post-war crusade in which the Labour organisations ,of Britain, Australia and New Zealand bad all played and must still play an invaluable part.
