MOTORIST FINED
CASE IX ASIIBURTON COURT In the Magistrate’s Court at. Ashburton to-day, before Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., the police proceeded against Selwyn John Ryde on a .charge of driving a car near Methven without reasonable consideration for other traffic and also for not being in possession of a current warrant of fitness. After evidence had been given by defendant, and by I. J. Little, whose car, following Ryde’s, had collided with it when it was turning into a gateway, and by Constable Paddy, of Methven, who had been called to the scene of the accident, the magistrate expressed the opinion that the driver of' a motor vehicle on a country road was bound to take especial care to be sure that no traffic was following him if he purposed to make a turn. Such special care defendant had not taken. -
Defendant was convicted and fined £3, with 10s costs. On the second charge he was fined 10s, with 10s costs. Witnesses’ expenses were allowed Ryde in the sum of £l.
Clearing Frontages The Ashburton County Council, represented by Mr R. Kennedy, proceeded against three property owners for failing to grub and remove all forse and plants on the roadways fronting their properties. They were: Alfred John Breakwell, in respect of a property atMaronan, who was fined £1 with £2 12s costs. Ida Elevyn Hopwood, in respect to a property at Winslow, £1 and 12s costs. Henry Michael Seyb, in respect of another Winslow property, in regard to which the work had since been done, £1 and 12s costs.
