ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED
CAR COLLIDES WITH LORRY (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, 2G. Mrs Winifred Dawes Berridge, aged 68, of Devon Street West, New Plymouth, died from multiple injuries in the Ne# Plymouth Hospital on Saturday night. Between two and three hours earlier she was a passenger in a rental car that overturned on its way north from Inglewood. Both the driver, Mr Patrick Francis Brookby, of New Plymouth, and another passenger, Mr A. Hodder, of New Plymouth, were injured. Both were cut about the face and head, and they were also taken to hospital, but were discharged after they had received treatment. The accident occurred on the Hawera-New Plymouth road, near Egmont Village, when Brookby, _ who was driving north, collided with _ a motor-lorry driven in the opposite direction by Cyril Richard Butler, of New Plymouth. Glancing off the back of the lorry, the car overturned several times before coming to rest.
