THE POPE’S HEALTH

REPORT OF SERIOUS ILLNESS WASHINGTON, February 23. The Pope' is seriously ill, but has refused his doctor’s advice to cease from all activities in order to prolong his life, according to a radio commentator, Ray Henle. Henle said he had “exclusive information” that the Pope was suffering from sclerosis of the leg vessels—the same disease as afflicted His Majesty King George VI. The Pape’s doctors feared that an operation such as the one which relieved the King, “might have the gravest results.” The commentator said the Pope was reported to have reminded his doctors of his Holy Year studies, which he said, he would fulfil regardless of the consequences.
