DEMONSTRATION IN BRUSSELS
U.S. MILITARY MISSION NOT WANTED (Rec. 10.0) BRUSSELS, February 23. “Peace” demonstrators totalling 150 —half of them young students—clashed with armed police in Brussels today when they gathered outside the United • States Embassy to protest against the presence in Belgium of the United States military aid mission under Brigadier-General Charles Lanliam. Four demonstrators carried placards with the words: “No arms—no generals—peace” and “Go home Lanham. Our dockers will not unload American aims.” Armed gendarmes and 50 police with drawn truncheons were called and sealed, off the area in front of the embassy. There were skirmishes when the demonstrators tried to break through the cordon of police.
