London’s Underground London’s underground railway system has been described as “the best ‘Underground Movement’ in the world.” It is the deepest system of all the undergrounds; the cost of constructing one mile of tube is over one and a half million pounds, and there are some 130 miles; 260 subterranean stations have automatic ticket boxes, lifts and escalators and safety devices which make underground travel so safe that only one passenger in 420,000 meets with an accident, in most cases a minor one.
