COUNCIL CHALLENGES MAYOR
/ PORT CHALMERS DISPUTE (P.A.) DUNEDIN, February 21. The Borough Council decided last evening to take action in Supreme Court against the Mayor (Mr T. Anderson), “compelling him to comply with standing orders.” Cr. H. S. Watson sai'd that at three successive meetings the Mayor h£(d bluntly refused to accept a notice of motion in connection with the borough’s water supply. This notice had been signed by seven councillors, and, on legal advice, had been found entirely in order. As the council could make no progress with the water scheme because of the Mayor’s attitude, added Cr. Watson, it had no choice but to institute legal proceedings. “I am not accepting the motion,” said the Mayor. “You can take whatever steps you like. I hope it does go to the Court.” " *
In the course of a heated debate, one councillor said “Snake Gully has nothing on the Port Chalmers Council.”
Before the meeting closed the Mayor asked that the next meeting he postponed for a week as he would be out of town. The council declined to agree.
