JAVAN REBEL FORCES
REPORT OF SERIOUS FIGHTING JAKARTA, Feb. 21. A serious outbreak of fighting between Dar-ul-Islam forces and members of the Indonesian Republican Army around Tasikmalaja, south-east of Bandoeng, was reported to-day by military officials in Jakarta. Delayed reports say that the Dar-ul-Islam forces, with which Captain R. P. D. Westerling’s men are said to have co-operated, fought a five-hour street battle.
During the next night the rebels attacked a gaol and freed 29. The rebels killed 111 soldiers.
Republican reinforcements did not arrive until February 15, when the rebel attack was finally beaten off.
