AMERICAN SALES OF OIL
Talks With British End In Stalemate
WASHINGTON, Feb. 20.
Talks between American oil companies and British officials have ended in a stalemate. The talks were arranged through the United States State Department, in an effort to alleviate the effects of British restrictions on imports of American petrol by the sterling area. ' Fuel oil restrictions, which Britain says are designed to save dollars, were applied last week. The American companies said they were not satisfied with Britain’s reply to their criticism, and said that the restrictions were designed* to favour British oil firms rather than to save dollars. The American companies plan to discuss the matter further with the State Department.
British officials said to-day that no change in the restrictions was contemplated.
