LOCHHEAD WINS HURDLES % . The standard of athletics at the invitation meeting held, at Lancaster Park yesterday, in which several of the visiting Empire Games competitors took part, was disappointingly low, although several of the visitors gave the crowd a lesson in style and technique. The Empire Games record hammer throw was beaten by Donald Clark (Scotland), who threw the hammer 180 ft 1| inches, an improvement of almost 17ft on his Games record. Competing in the 440yds hurdles, N. Lochhead, of Ashburton, won from G. Ward (Canterbury) and J. Hart (Scotland) in the time of 58. S seconds.
