GOOD PROGRESS
CROQUET AT ASHBURTON RESULTS IN DETAIL Good progress was made yesterday with the opening stages of play at the annual tournament of the South Canterbury Croquet Association. The fixture, which has drawn 2GO entries, is expected to last for about a fortnight. Greens were heavy, after early morning dew, when the official opening ceremony took place, but they soon dried out and conditions were excellent, apart from a gusty wind occasionally, from then on. Games are being played on the Ashburton, Waireka and Allenton Club, greens, all of which were warmly praised by the visitors. Mrs A. G. Rawlinson is tournament manager and Mrs M. C. Cowan secretary.
