, TINWALD MEETING i ; . : iG ' ■ The February meeting of the Tinwakl Women’s Institute was held recently. The artnual picnic was held in the Botanical Gardens, Christchurch, and all who attended spent a very pleasant day. An air-letter from the link in England thanking members for a parcel of sweets at Christmas time was read. It was unanimously agreed to send a delegate to the annual conference, and also that a donation he forwarded to the home helpers’ scheme. The nomination of officers for the ensuing year was then taken, and several suggestions for the new programme were noted. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Ryan, Gluestein and Millar.

Competitions resulted: Girdle scones, Mesdames Tarbotton 1, McKenzie 2, Johnston 3; bag of fruit and flowers, Mesdames Johnston 1, Jordan 2, Rodd 3; print apron, Mesdames Jordan‘l,’ Skilling 2, Aldridge 3; best bloom, Mesdames Jordan 1, Rodd 2, Evans 3.

LOWCLIFFE MEETING Miss G. Murdoch, president, was in j the chair at the February meeting of | the Lowcliffe Women’s Institute and ! paid a tribute to the late Mrs R. E. i Cross, a valued member, who will j always be remembered for her keen interest in the movement and generous support of all worthy causes. Members stood as a mark of Sympathy. The motto, “Kindness, like grain, increases with sowing,’’ was given by Mrs Bruce. The agenda for the annual Federation meeting was read and discussed. Final arrangements were .made for the flower show to be held in the school on February 25. The roll call was: The three most useful articles in the medicine chest. It was decided to hold a reunion picnic in the Domain early in March and to invite all ex-members. Mrs Kingston gave an interesting talk on fabrics and was accorded a vote of thanks. Results of competitions were: Orange cake, Mrs Srlioy 1, Mrs H. Price 2, Mrs Smyth 3; bloom, Mesdames Hawke and Bruce (equal) 1; spike, Mesdames Barnes and Srlioy (equal) 1; cluster, Mrs Lloyd 1.

The hostesses were Mesdames Smyth and Lloyd.
