PEDESTRIAN KILLED
STRUCK BY TRUCK (P.A.) NAPIER, February 20. Struck by a motor-truck on a street crossing at 6 p.m. to-day, an elderly Napier man was fatally injured. He died two’hours afterwards in hospital. He was: Albert George Wills, aged 89, of 46 Munro Street, Napier. The accident happened at the corner of Vautier and Munro Streets. WATERSIDER INJURED FALL INTO HOLD OF SHIP (P.A.)' CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 20. Gerald Lake, a waterside worker, living at 395 Linwood Avenue, Christchurch, fell down a hold of the overseas ship La Cordillera, a distance of about 30 feet, at Lyttelton this evening. Pie suffered a broken knee-cap and head injuries. He was attended by the ship’s medical officer, Dr. Ruby Jackson, and was conveyed to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition later was reported to be -satisfactory.
EMPIRE GAMES CYCLISTS INJURED (P.A.) DUNEDIN, February 20. J. Hamilton (Scotland) and A. Newman (England), two Empire Games cyclists, were left behind in the Dunedin Hospital when the overseas athletes left Dunedin for -Christchurch this morning. They were injured in a crash in a five-mile invitation scratch race at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday.' Newman tore a thigh muscle and Plamilton is suffering from concussion and a fractured wrist. It is hoped that they will rejoin their teams at Timaru in about a week.
