TASMAN AIR SERVICE.

AUSTRALIA TO SOUTH ISLAND STATEMENT BY MR. HOLLAND (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. _ The Prime Minister (Mr S. G. Hoiland) said to-day that a South IslandAustralia air service would be started as soon as it was possible to organise it. “We are not letting up on Harewood,” lie said. He felt some disappointment because more rapid progress had not been made because of the variety of international agreements which controlled the services between Australia and New Zealand, said the Prime Minister. There would be no delay as far as he was concerned but the inauguration of such a service must be conditional on Harewood’s being brought up to the necessary standard. This work would be pushed ahead, but all contributing factors must be taken into account.

HIGH PRIORITY FOR RONGOTAI ASSURANCE BY MR HOLLAND (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. “The Government is anxious to ensure that the present intolerable situ ation respecting commercial aerodrome facilities for Wellington and the districts which regard the as their travel centre should be put right as soon as possible,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) this evening. “The total picture of construction throughout iNew Zealand must be borne in mind, but Rongotai must of necessity maintain its place high on the list of priorities.” Rongotai was an undertaking of magnitude greater than was perhaps generally appreciated and the eventual overall exenditure would by New Zealand standards be tremendous, said the Prime Minister.

Evans Bay as a flying-boat base was a matter for Tasman Empire Airways, he added. -
