FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the "Guardian,” Feb. 21, 1900}. A Prolific Yield—Mr W. Moses, of Flemington, reports having obtained the following yields: From 30 acres — Oats, 33S bags firsts, total 2539 bushels; 64 bags seconds, total 243 bushels. From four and a half acres —Barley, 96 hags firsts, total 384 bushels; 2 bags seconds, total 4 bushels. The above would be very hard to beat anywhere- in Canterbury-—Exhibition of Roses: Two stands, containing 18 very fine roses of the choicest varieties, were shown in a shop on Saturday. The blooms were from the nursery of Mr J. Millichamp, The Terrace, Ashburton. They were greatly admired by everybody.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Feb. 21, 1925). New Classrooms at East—The two new classrooms to supplement the accommodation at the East Ashburton School will be detached from the present buildings by about half a chain. A grant of £ISOO has been made for the building, which will be erected in the east corner of the grounds. The authorities were at first unwilling that the new classrooms should be separate from the main building, but have adopted the committee’s strong recommendation that they be detached.
