K AUTHORITY AT ASHBURTON
A sitting of the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr C. L. Bishop) was held at Ashburton to-day.
Charles M. Laing, of Eiffelton, was granted a new continuous goods service licence, with one vehicle authority, for carriage of race horses and brood mares. Mr V. W. Russell appeared in support of the application. Maxwell A. Collison, of Alford Forest, . was granted an amendment to his goods service licence permitting sowing and carriage of lime, and carriage of minerals such as sand, fire and pottery clays, etc. Mr Russell appeared for applicant A transfer of goods service licence from H. B. and S. J. Millichamp to J. Millichamp and Sons, Ltd., was approved. Mr G. C. Nicoll appeared for applicant. On applicant’s own request, a taxicab licence granted Gordon Percival Scott, of Methven, w r as revoked. . Baynes 8r05.,. Walsh’s Road, Ashburton, sought amendment of all existing vehicle authorities to cover the whole- of Ashburton County' and inclusion of one additional authority for carriage of general- goods in the county. Mr W. R. Lascelles (Christchurch) appeared in support of the application, which was opposed by Mid-Canterbury Transport Ltd. (Mr R, Young). Mr Russell watched proceedings on behalf of W. Grieve. Fairly lengthy evidence was called for both parties and, after submissions by counsel, the full application was granted, with the special condition that all vehicles used be domiciled in Ashburton.
