ATOMIC ENERGY DISCUSSIONS
REFERENCE BY MR MORRISON LONDON, Feb. 18. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says there is much speculation in London about a reference made by the Lord President of the Council (Mr Herbert Morrison) on Thursday to “delicate discussions now, taking place about atomic energy. Mr Morrison was criticising Mr Churchill’s proposal for a new approach to Russia. This proposal Mr Morrison described as “momst unwise and injudicious,” because the matter needed “careful preparation between Britain and Russia.” . The United Nations, Mr Morrisoh added, was also involved, and it could cause “unnecessary friction if the issue were suddenly taken out of the United Nations’ hands.” The correspondent of the ‘ Daily Telegraph” eqmments: “All talks about atomic energv can be considered delicate,’ and as several are in progress, Mr Morrison would be justified in thus' describing them. But he would not appear justified if he intended to imply special knowledge of new discussions which would vitiate Mr Churchill’s proposal. “No confirmation of any new ‘delicate discussions’ was forthcoming today.”
