MIGRANTS FOR AUSTRALIA
GERMANS ALLOWED ENTRY CANBERRA, Feb. 19. It is learned authoritatively that German nationals will now be admitted to Australia as migrants. Any Australian may nominate a German who will be admitted subject to accommodation, health and a strict security check. No Nazi will be eligible. The Minister of Immigration (Mr H. E. Holt) has approved a relaxation of the Chifley Government’s policy whereby Italians were admitted under nomination and subject to security checks hut Germans were excluded except in exceptional circumstances.
There is no Australian scheme for the large-scale immigration of Germans.
