EXPANSION OF COMMUNISM

WARNING BY SOUTH KOREA TOKIO, Feb. IS. The President of South Korea (Dr. Syngman Rhee) to-day issued a warning to the Western democracies that step by step Communists were win ning the world by a cold war. Dr. Rhee said: “The Soviet Union intends to spread out—by peaceful means if possible, by war if necessary and the peace-loving nations will go as far as they can without war by yielding or backing down. “If the United States decided to go into peace talks with the Soviet that, would be another step backward.” Dr. Rhee said that Soviet and Communist forces would confront Japan across* the narrow Korean straits if the South Korean Republic fell. Dr. Rhee with his Foreign Minister, is returning to Korea after a threeday conference wth United States and Japanese leaders. .
