SWIMMING

CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED The annual swimming sports of the Ashburton High School were held in the school baths yesterday. Apart from a north-westerly wind, conditions were ideal, and the large attendance of parents, friends and pupils witnessed some closely-contested events, all of which attracted good entries. For the third year in succession R. Macfarlane won the boys’ senior championship, this time from R. Gluyas, who was also runner-up last year. After winning the girls’ junior championship last year, Sheila McGregor showed improved form to win the senior championship. Championship winners were: —Girls: S. McGregor (senior) and I).
