COMMUNIST THREAT
AMERICAN MILITARY AID FRANCE TAKES STEP (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright). (Rec. 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 17. The Minister of the Interior, M. Queuille, sent troops of the Mobile Security Guards into the docks to-night, to oppose a Communist threat to sabotage American military aid shipments, says the United Press Paris correspondent.
The Minister warned that t ihe Government would use, if necessary, a law which provided penalties ranging from 10 years’ gaol to the death sentence in cases of treason or sabotage of war material. These moves came as the Communists sent out orders for 24hour stoppages in the ' three mining areas in central and Southern France to-morrow. -•
A dress rehearsal attempt to paralyse France’s railways and the big northern coalmines occurred to-day. Workers in Government arsenals have been warned that the Government will not tolerate political strikes.
