AMERICAN MINERS’ STRIKE

SECRET TALKS REPORTED WASHINGTON, Feb. 17. The miners’ leader, Mr John L. Lewis, held a secret meeting with the mineowners last night. It was understood that they discussed specific wage settlement terms. Mr Lewis at an earlier session made proposals which the owners said would add 600,000,000 dollars a year to production, costs. They included a guaranteed annual wage based on 200 working days, a daily wage rise of 145 cents and a 7£-hour day.
